Child
protection The diocesan guidelines are fully implemented in line with the Nolan Report. All who work with the children must be vetted as set out in these guidelines. The Finance committee is concerned with all aspects of parish finance, particularly book-keeping, budgeting and managing tax covenants. Annual finance reports are produced for the parish and the diocese. We particularly welcome contributions from the Inland Revenue ….. so if you are a taxpayer, retired or in work, please consider the advantages to the church of taking out a Gift Aid declaration. A Gift Aid declaration does not cost you anything – all it requires is a signature. The parish has been for some time committed to giving away up to 50% of its income to charitable concerns. Parishioners who covenant or contribute by standing order are asked to indicate what percentage of the offerings they wish to be used for charities which the parish supports. The committee makes sure that our buildings with all fixtures and fittings are in good repair. This includes responsibility for the surrounding land and for implementing the recommendations of the Quinquennial Reports. Issues concerning health and safety are attended to on an on-going basis. Basic details about everyone in the parish are maintained to help the parish priest in his ministry. It is very helpful when all new parishioners complete a form, although it is stressed that this is voluntary and family details can be withheld from all except the parish priest. All subsequent changes should be notified. This committee arranges the social functions of the parish: barbecues, discos, shared lunches, outings, special meals. We welcome suggestions about suitable events to celebrate. This is a means of telephoning information around the parish quickly by cascading a message. The chain came into existence so that requests for prayers can be made when an unexpected illness or accident happens. It is an aspect of caring for each other and helps to overcome the disadvantage of belonging to a parish which is largely rural. Anyone who wishes may have his or her telephone number added to the chain. There is a weekly newsletter giving details of Mass times etc. In addition there is a monthly news magazine Community News with letters, articles, news and opinions from the parish. This is published on the first Sunday of the month. Contributions by the last Sunday of the month, preferably typed or sent by e-mail to boycemairead@aol.com An e-mail distribution list is maintained for the circulation of urgent news, requests for prayer, etc. All parishioners with e-mail facilities are encouraged to subscribe in order to receive these messages. To join, just send an e-mail with the subject “Subscribe”, but no message text to st.george-request@ntay.com or click here to sign-up online. To send a message to all on the list address it to st.george@ntay.com Parish Web Site www.stgeorge.org.uk This web
site contains background information about the parish and its activities
for newcomers and visitors, and information from parish groups. It is
also frequently updated with parish news, diary of events, rotas of ministries
and other duties, and liturgical resources such as lists of hymns chosen
for our Masses. Additional material is always welcome via ntaylor@ntay.com. |
